Warmest start to Feb. on record | Live Doppler 13 Weather Blog

After some historic warm weather, a cold front moves in and drops temperatures back into the 40s this week.

INDIANAPOLIS — The first nine days of February have all been above normal. With an average temperature of 43.8 degrees during that stretch, this month so far ranks as the warmest start to the month of February for Indianapolis.

Our spring preview has come to an end as an overnight cold front will change up our wind direction from the south to the northwest ushering in a much cooler air mass. Overnight temperatures in the 50s will be the "warmest" of the day as most of central Indiana holds steady in the mid to upper 40s this afternoon. The overnight rain associated with the cold front has moved out but clouds will linger throughout the day.

As this boundary stalls out across the Ohio River Valley tonight, a few stray rain showers will be possible across the far southern tier of Indiana. Mostly to partly cloudy skies are expected elsewhere as temperatures fall to near the freezing mark overnight.

Sunday will be a dry day with partly cloudy skies and temperatures topping out in the upper 40s. That's still above average for this time of year by about 10 degrees. We're looking good for party plans if you're celebrating the big game tomorrow evening with temperatures dropping into the low 40s.

Our next chance of precipitation will arrive Monday afternoon as an area of low pressure lifts north. Temperatures will be well above freezing in the mid 40s as this rain moves in and then falls in the evening and overnight. Any leftover moisture could transition into a rain/snow mix before exiting before the Tuesday morning rush hour. Accumulating snow around the metro is not expected but roads could be slick to get Tuesday started.

We'll then see a more quiet set-up through mid-week with partly cloudy skies and highs in the mid 40s Tuesday and near 50 Wednesday. We've got a couple of weak waves that are possible both Thursday and Friday and will bring a chance of stray rain showers both days. Temperatures remain unseasonably mild with highs in the upper 40s near 50.
