INDIANAPOLIS — Over the weekend, the NWS Chicago office confirmed another tornado from their warning area. This was an EF0 in Porter County that began five miles southeast of Hobart and ended five miles southwest of South Haven. It was on the ground for just .6 miles with max wind 70 mph.
Thankfully, there were no injuries with that tornado.
That brings the total number of tornadoes in Indiana for the March 31, 2023 outbreak to 23, now in sole place for the fifth most in Indiana in one day and the most in the state on a single day since Nov. 17, 2013.
For perspective, the 23 tornadoes outpaced the annual statewide average (22) in just four hours.
Damage surveys continue in northwest Indiana and it's possible additional confirmed tornadoes could occur.
