INDIANAPOLIS — A gusty northwest wind today will usher in a chilly, drier air mass keeping temperatures below average to start the weekend.
Look for a gradually clearing sky today but with highs only in the mid 40s. The average high for Indy at this point in the season is 55. Bundle up if you're headed to the Indy Eleven home opener this evening as temperatures will drop into the upper 30s.
Another hard freeze is expected tonight as temperatures drop into the upper 20s under a partly cloudy sky. It will "feel" more like the upper teens with the wind chill factored in.
Winds will shift from the southeast tomorrow which brings a slight warming trend as temperatures recover to the low 50s Sunday afternoon. Skies stay clear so take the sunglasses if you're headed downtown for the second round of March Madness at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Our next weather system arrives early next week first bringing very strong southerly wind gusts up to 40 mph at times Monday. This pushes temperatures into the mid 60s. We'll be mainly dry Monday with only a stray shower possible.
Monday night into Tuesday morning will be the timeframe widespread rain will be most likely. We'll then see a slight lull in rain Tuesday afternoon before the cold front moves through Tuesday evening and brings a secondary round of steady rainfall. Temperatures will hold steady in the 50s on Tuesday then fall to near freezing by Wednesday morning as cooler, drier air returns.
Wednesday looks to be the coolest day next week with highs in the upper 40s. The pattern becomes more quiet through the end of next week as temperatures start to trend upward. Highs rebound to the mid 50s Thursday, mid 60s Friday and will push 70 by the start of next weekend.
