INDIANAPOLIS — Today will be the pick of the week with temperatures topping out in the mid-60s around the Indy metro and even into the upper 60s across the southern tier of central Indiana. These are typically more seasonal temperatures for mid-April.

Lots of sunshine will start the day before clouds increase rapidly in the evening as our next weather system brings rain in late.

If you're headed to Bloomington tonight to cheer on the Hoosiers, you should stay dry as most of the rain tonight stays across the northern tier of the state.

Rain stays widespread across northern Indiana overnight along a stalled warm front. We'll have a few showers around the Indy metro during the Thursday morning rush hour with rain becoming heavier and more widespread by lunchtime.

All of this rain is associated with an area of low pressure that is set to track right through central Indiana in the afternoon and eventually push east, taking rain out of the area after 5 p.m. Temperatures will hold steady in the low to mid-50s.

We'll see some sunshine returning Friday afternoon with temperatures still in the upper 40s. A secondary cold front will then move through Friday evening and will serve as a reinforcing shot of colder air, setting us up for a chilly start to the weekend.

The coldest temperatures in the extended forecast will be on Saturday, with morning lows in the 20s and a few stray snow flurries possible. We'll only recover to near 40 in the afternoon. This will only be a brief cold blast, though, as a shift in winds by Sunday will again serve as a conveyor belt of warmer, moist air from the Gulf.

While we could see a few stray rain showers on Sunday, temperatures will recover in a big way with highs back in the upper 50s. Another unseasonably mild setup starts next week with highs in the mid-60s.
