INDIANAPOLIS — It's a humid day here in central Indiana to kick off the first weekend of May.

Dew points will be in the low to mid-60s today and will remain in the "muggy" zone. The excess moisture in the air has prompted a few pop-up thundershowers in southern Indiana. There will be more pop-up storms this afternoon, especially across the eastern tier of the state between 2 and 6 p.m. Look for a mix of sun and clouds elsewhere as temperatures recover to the low to mid-80s across central Indiana.

The forecast keeps the radar mainly rain-free for Rev Indy tonight at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, with temperatures dropping into the mid-70s. We are watching a line of storms along a cold front that will impact western Indiana after 10 p.m. If this holds together, a few storms will be possible in the metro area closer to midnight, but this will likely dissipate as it tracks east.

The cold front will bring in a less humid air mass for Sunday, with highs in the mid-70s. A stray shower will be possible mainly east in the afternoon. Lots of dry time elsewhere.

Next week brings a rather active pattern, with several rain and storm chances. Scattered rain returns by Monday morning and will continue through the day, especially south of the I-70 corridor. Rain-cooled air with cloudy skies hinders temperatures to the low 70s for highs Monday.

A few more rounds of storms will impact Indiana Tuesday afternoon and evening into Wednesday. A few strong to severe storms will be possible in this time period. We'll be in the "warm sector" of this weather system mid-week, with highs in the low 80s both Tuesday and Wednesday.

The cold front passes through Thursday, bringing another round of storms, especially during the morning hours, with highs back in the mid to upper 70s Thursday afternoon.

Friday looks to be a mainly dry day, with only a stray shower or storm possible but much cooler, with highs in the upper 60s.
