INDIANAPOLIS — We hope you had the opportunity to enjoy what we labeled as our pick-of-the-week. Filtered sun, a balmy southwest wind, and highs in the mid/upper 60s give it that honor.

There's still time to enjoy the milder day before the sunset around 7 p.m. Even the evening will be relatively pleasant for mid-October standards.

But we're on borrowed time for dry weather with an approaching expected to arrive just in time to dampen the Thursday morning commute. Plan on rain for school drop-offs, the bus stop, and/or if you're early day runner.

Scattered to numerous showers continue into the afternoon and evening with the possibility of, if not likelihood, of some thunderstorms. We don't envision severe weather, but hail in stronger cell will be possible in addition to areas of briefly moderate/heavy rain rates.

This marks a transition to unsettled weather into the weekend with a secondary system racing through the state Friday night into Saturday. This will be a clipper system. Later in the season it would bring snow, but in this case it will be a swath of rain (more likely north-northeast) with wind-whipped showers trailing into Saturday afternoon.

As its energy transfers to a coastal storm, expect an increasing north-northeasterly wind to develop by Saturday afternoon. This makes for blustery conditions and unseasonably cool highs for the weekend.

Sunday will be brighter and calmer as high pressure settles over the region. That same high may bring optimal conditions (clear sky, calm wind, and high pressure center nearby) for frost formation going into Monday morning. Stay tuned.

However, that will be followed-up by a multi-day stretch of highs well in the 70s next week.
