INDIANAPOLIS — Today will be another Weather Aware day with the likelihood of scattered to possibly numerous storms in the southeastern half of the state, including near the Indy metro area.
A Level 2 risk, out of 5, is now in place for that zone of Indiana for a higher probability of storms with 60+ mph gusts and/or ping-pong sized hail or greater. You'll want to monitor radar closely if you have outdoor plans as storm initiation occurs between now and 5 p.m.
Similar to Sunday, not everyone gets hit today but for those in the path of these pulse storms, expect torrential rain rates, lightning, gusty windwe and possibly damaging hail in stronger cores.
These sun-driven storms should fade before midnight, but we can't rule out isolated heavy cells lingering overnight similar to what happened Sunday night.
This is part of a hot and unsettled pattern moving forward this week with a daily chance of pop-up storms emerging within our hottest air since last July.
Temperatures reach the low 90s tomorrow and low/mid 90s Wednesday. That heat, combined with a miserable "Muggy Meter", pushes heat indices near/above 100 degrees mid to late week that likely brings on Heat Advisories and/or Excessive Heat Warnings for parts of the WTHR viewing area.
Either way, expect the hottest air of the summer so far that will coincides with the start of the Colts Camp on Wednesday and the beginning of the Indiana State Fair on Friday.
