INDIANAPOLIS — Today and tomorrow will be quiet and seasonal ahead of an active pattern bringing showers and storms to central Indiana starting Thursday.
TODAY'S HEADLINES:
- Mainly sunny with fair weather clouds developing in the warmth of the afternoon
- Highs slightly warmer than Monday in the low 80s
- Light breeze from the northeast
- Great weather to enjoy $2 Tuesday at the Indiana State Fair
WEDNESDAY'S HEADLINES:
- Clear and cool start in the low 60s (upper 50s in outlying areas)
- Mostly to partly sunny
- Seasonal highs in the mid 80s
- Rain chance returns during the overnight early Thursday
Risk of strong storms already in the forecast for Thursday
An area of low pressure first brings a warm front through on Thursday, prompting a few showers in the morning but a better chance of more widespread rain and storms in the evening into early Friday morning.
Widespread severe weather is not expected, but there could be an isolated storm containing damaging wind gusts.
Friday will be a more humid and hot day while central Indiana sits in the "warm sector" of this storm system ahead of a cold front moving through later in the day.
This will prompt another round of scattered rain, potentially with a few embedded thunderstorms.
Storms are not expected to be severe Friday, but brief heavy rain could lead to localized flooding and lightning is a threat with any thunderstorm.
Rain chances for the weekend
As this area of low pressure continues to track farther from the area this weekend, the pattern will begin to quiet down.
A few isolated showers could wrap around the back side of this system during the weekend, but rain chances look to be few and far between at this point.
It will become less humid with temperatures cooling back into the low 80s for highs.
