INDIANAPOLIS — We're in the homestretch leading to the 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500 as practice is set to begin today at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The caveat — rain is headed into Indy.
TODAY:
Two practices are scheduled today: 9-11 a.m. then 1-6 p.m. The first will have the better chance of taking place as rain chances increase by the lunch hour.
Rain has been steadily falling across the southwestern tier of the state, and this cluster of showers is headed toward Indianapolis. Once it arrives, periods of heavy rain will be possible through late this evening, including the evening rush hour and past sunset.
WEDNESDAY:
Much better weather when the gates at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway open at 10 a.m. with Indy 500 practice running from noon to 6 p.m.
A stray shower will be possible in the morning but clear out early. Showers will linger across the eastern tier of the state through the early afternoon with clearing skies elsewhere. Highs rebound into the low 70s.
THURSDAY:
The earlier the better. Gates at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway again open at 10 a.m. with Indy 500 practice running from noon-6 p.m. We'll have lots of dry time during the afternoon with increasing rain chances in the evening.
FRIDAY:
While we see a little lull Friday morning, showers look to return by Friday afternoon, putting track time for Fast Friday in jeopardy. The timing could still change on this system, so make sure to check back if you have plans to head to the IMS.
QUALIFICATIONS WEEKEND:
If we see rain this weekend, it will be stray showers on Saturday. There will still be lots of dry hours though, with highs in the upper 70s, near 80. Sunday looks dry and warmer with highs in the low 80s.
