Changes arrive mid-week as dew points jump into the uncomfortable category as moisture surges into central Indiana. This will increase the risk of storm development from Wednesday through Friday as well.

Will my fourth of July plans get rained out?

It's definitely looking stormy at times both Wednesday and Thursday. For Wednesday, a frontal boundary will stall to our north creating an environment conducive of storm production. Scattered storms are likely, especially during the peak heating hours in the afternoon into the evening. Some storms could even reach severe limits during this time frame with damaging wind gusts possible. The Storm Prediction Center has already placed central and southern Indiana under a level 2 of 5 for this risk.

Is Thursday looking any better than Wednesday?

While the severe risk is lower, the storm coverage area may be more widespread and lightning/gusty winds are a threat in any thunderstorm. While it won't be an all day washout, it does look like several rounds of storms will be possible on Thursday starting in the morning and continuing into the evening. Those planning outdoor activities should be prepared for a rather active weather day.

Friday looks to be the day the frontal boundary moves through. This will once again spark scattered storms but mainly during the first part of the day with more dry time in the evening. Behind the front, sunshine returns to start next weekend with seasonal highs in the low to mid 80s.
