INDIANAPOLIS — Highs will be in the low 50s today, but many spots climb to near 60 degrees Monday. The standing record for Indianapolis on December 16 is 65 degrees from 1984.
The more mild temperatures have come with fairly impressive rainfall totals from the past 24 hours, with many spots picking up nearly a half inch.
REST OF TODAY:
Widespread morning rain showers will begin to taper off to only a stray shower, mainly east, this afternoon. Staying cloudy but mild with highs in the low 50s as central Indiana sits in the "warm sector" of a passing weather system.
TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY MORNING:
Staying mostly cloudy this evening, and for most of the overnight, as rain returns in the pre-dawn hours Monday morning. Temperatures will actually rise from the mid 40s around midnight to the low 50s by 7 a.m. Monday.
MONDAY RAIN & WARMER TEMPS...
Rain will then be likely by the mid-morning, especially across the southern half of the state. By 3 p.m., most rain will move east of the Indy metro as the cold pushes east. Temperatures remain mild along the front allowing for very mild highs near 60 degrees Monday afternoon.
NOT AS WARM STARTING TUESDAY
Behind this front, skies clear Monday night into Tuesday morning as temperatures fall into the mid 30s. Highs remain slightly above average in the upper 40s for Tuesday afternoon under a mostly sunny sky.
ANOTHER ROUND OF RAIN, WINTRY MIX WEDNESDAY
Another weather system will come through during the first part of the day Wednesday, bringing rain showers to most of central Indiana with a wintry mix possible across the northern tier of the state. Behind this system, we'll see colder air returning with highs back in the upper 30s Thursday and Friday.
