INDIANAPOLIS — A cold front arrives late Thursday in the midst of a heating trend and will prompt a few strong storms into early Friday morning.
Above average stretch begins today
High: 85 degrees
It will be a mainly sunny day with a relatively low muggy meter.
First 90-degree day of the season tomorrow?
It is very possible with winds increasing to 20 mph from the southwest. On average, Indy sees its first 90 degrees around June 21. Last year we hit 90 on June 2. Slightly more muggy but sunny.
Be Weather Aware late Thursday with severe storms possible
TIMELINE: After 7 p.m. across northern Indiana, moving into the metro area around 12 a.m. Friday.
SEVERE THREATS: Damaging winds, mainly across northwestern Indiana.
A few stronger storms will be possible across the northwestern tier of the state as the atmosphere will still have excess fuel. This line will then weaken as it tracks south into the Indy metro and temperatures will be on the downward trend allowing the atmosphere to lose steam. Showers and storms exit by daybreak Friday.
Dropping dew points Friday
Temperatures remain above average but perhaps a few degrees cooler than Thursday with highs in the mid-to-upper 80s. Skies clear Friday afternoon as dew points drop from the mid-60s in the morning (muggy zone) into the mid-50s (comfortable zone) in the afternoon.
Saturday looks fantastic with highs in the mid-80s with a pleasant airmass to start the weekend. Humidity builds with dew points in the "miserable" zone starting Sunday.
Heat dome arrives Sunday and continues into next week
The core of the heat dome takes over for Father's Day on Sunday. Highs will then be in the low to mid-90s well into next week.
