INDIANAPOLIS — The main threat from this winter storm will transition from snow to bitter cold. Most of central Indiana will end up with a couple of inches of snow. There will be some higher totals east and southeast.
However we will all be dealing with blowing and drifting snow, below zero temperatures, wind gusts near 50 mph and wind chills -30 degrees or lower.
This dangerous chill will stick around through the holiday weekend. Roads will stay snowy and ice-covered due to the cold, gusty winds and additional snow showers through Christmas Day.
We have already had reports of power outages, and more are possible due to the gusty winds. Take precautions to keep you, your family and pets safe.
If you do have to travel, make sure you have a winter safety kit. This can include water, snacks, extra clothes, blankets and a portable cell phone charger. A full tank of gas is a good idea too.
Low temperatures will be below zero through Christmas Day. Afternoon temperatures will be near zero degrees on Friday, in the single digits on Saturday and in the teens on Sunday.
