INDIANAPOLIS — A Winter Storm Warning goes into effect at 4 p.m. today lasting through 4 p.m. Sunday for areas just northeast of the Indy metro including Hamilton County to Tippecanoe County. This is where 4" - 6" of snow will be possible.
The Indy metro is looking at 2" - 4" with a quick cut-off to areas south where the primary precipitation type will be all rain. A Winter Weather Advisory has been posted for the metro from 4 p.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday.
There will be a quick cut-off to areas south where the precipitation type will be mainly rain from Bloomington to Seymour.
Temperatures recover to the mid to upper 30s around 2 p.m. as rain moves into the state. Temperatures will drop and rain transitions over to snow for areas along and northeast of the I-74 corridor mainly after 4 p.m.
Snow will be the heaviest impacting travel the most from 4 p.m. through midnight. This will be a wet, heavy snow combined with low visibility which will make for dangerous travel. Avoid being on the roads this evening if possible. If you must travel, make sure to have an emergency kit in your car including things like a flashlight, food, water, and blankets.
Warmer air will nudge back north around midnight and will allow for snow to transition back into mainly rain. Snow will continue for the northern tier of the state.
Rain will likely again Sunday with highs in the upper 30s.
Temperatures will fall again late Sunday as the moisture begins to push out so a few light snow showers will be possible but little to no new accumulation is expected.
