INDIANAPOLIS — Tropical Storm Elsa is moving nearly parallel with the western coast of Florida, tracking north at 12 mph with sustained winds of 65 mph.
Hurricane conditions are possible over the next several hours (sustained winds peaking at 75+ mph). A Hurricane Warning remains in effect for the west coast of Florida, north of Sarasota through the Big Bend.
The storm will make a gradual turn north-northeast during the course of the day and is set to make landfall this afternoon near Cedar Key, FL. Elsa will weaken as it crosses the southeastern U.S.
Heavy rainfall will be the primary threat with the storm with considerable flash and urban flooding, along with a storm surge of 3-5 feet possible in the warning area along Florida's western coast.
While the center of the storm remains inland as it tracks into Georgia and eventually the Carolinas, tropical storm conditions will still be possible with a high wind and flooding threat along the Georgia and South Carolina coasts.
Tropical storm conditions will still be possible as the remnants of Elsa track along the mid-Atlantic states Thursday into Friday.
