INDIANAPOLIS — Wednesday was warm and windy. Thursday will be warm and stormy, but Friday will be breezy and much colder.
As we transition from an unseasonably warm air mass to a much colder one, there will be storms. Right now, rain and storms will come in two waves. We want you to stay weather aware due the risk of severe weather on Thursday.
The first wave arrives around 3 a.m. Thursday. The rain will be heavy at times and a few gusty thunderstorms are possible.
Afternoon temperatures reach the 60s again, and the warmth will fuel another round of storms, especially east and southeast of Indianapolis.
All modes of severe weather are possible, including tornadoes, hail and damaging winds with the second round. That timeline will be from about 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday. During this time, we will also experience a 20-plus degree temperature drop.
Friday will be much colder with a few flurries. Temperatures will be in the 20s Friday morning and wind chills in the teens. Highs will only be in the 30s.
