INDIANAPOLIS — We're officially on the upward trend after a low temperature of 57 between 5-7 a.m. Temperatures will quickly rise through the 70s during the morning.
We'll be near 80 as the green flag waves at 12:45 p.m. Winds will increase, gusting to 25 mph at times through the afternoon and pushing temperatures into the mid 80s for highs.
If we hit 85, that temperature would tie for the 19th hottest race day on record. The hottest race day hit 92 back in 1937.
The sun will make it feel even hotter. The UV Index is a 9 of 11 today meaning burn times are in the 10-15 minute range. A shirt, hat, and sunscreen is a must and reapplying and SPF 30+ every two hours is recommended.
