INDIANAPOLIS — It's hard to believe that its been 5 years since the last total solar eclipse. There was so much excitement, as Hoosiers made plans to experience a spectacular event.
According to Forbes, 32 million people live within the path of totality for the 2024 eclipse, compared to just 12 million who lived within the 2017 path.
The 2017 event was the first solar eclipse visible from the 48 contiguous states since 1979. It was also the first eclipse to stretch coast-to-coast since 1918.
In Indy, the eclipse began on Aug. 21 at 12:57 p.m. and ended at 3:48 p.m. The maximum eclipse was at 2:25 p.m.
Now, we are looking forward to the next total solar eclipse and it will be two years from today, April 8, 2024, and Indianapolis will be in the the path of totality!
A solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth.
And Indiana will be in the direct path of the total eclipse on April 8, 2024!
