INDIANAPOLIS — Temperatures remained some 15°+ above average Sunday afternoon with hazy sun, a stiff south-southeasterly wind, and highs near 80°.  This leads to a rather balmy evening in central Indiana that's more indicative of mid-September versus late October.

Expect comfortable air out the door Monday morning with lows in the mid to upper 50s.

The warm-up will again be quick tomorrow and we're staring down another afternoon of highs flirting with 80°.

This precedes an approaching cold front that eventually delivers our best chance of organized, widespread and possibly heavy rainfall that we've had in months.

Confidence is growing that much of central Indiana will receive 1"-2"+ rain between midday Tuesday and midday Wednesday.

The highest rain amounts are expected to be along and west of I-65, but even eastern Indiana should cash in on .50"+ rainfall. This is just what the doctor ordered after a historically dry streak since Sept. 25.

During that time, Indianapolis has had only .09" which is 3" below average and good for the driest during that time in Indy since record-keeping began in 1871.

Rain and thunderstorms overspread the state by sunset Tuesday and rain lingers along the aforementioned cold front Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Noticeably colder air will be around Wednesday, but closer to the daily average for late October. This equates to lows in the 40s and highs in the upper 50s to near 60°.

For now, the early call for Halloween weekend is pleasant weather around central Indiana.

We'll be monitoring the potential of showers returning on Oct. 31, next week. Stay tuned.
