INDIANAPOLIS — Another hot one in central Indiana with afternoon temperatures well in the 90s. Today will be the hottest this week, and of the year, with Indianapolis already at 93° and another 1-2 hours of peak sun to go.
Dewpoints in the upper 50s to lower 60s aren't terribly humid so temperatures mostly match heat indices today. We're still expecting the muggiest day of the week to hit Wednesday as dewpoints climb into the 70s for at least a few hours. That timing occurs between noon and 4 p.m. and delivers peak heat indices in the upper 90s to 105° range with the worst expected to set up near/south of I-70.
That same zone has a better chance of seeing spotty to widely-spaced downpours and potentially severe storms between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Any storms will depart by 8 p.m. as a wind shift to the north-northwest emerges and brings a return to less humid air for Thursday into Friday.
