INDIANAPOLIS — Dangerous heat and humidity continues today. An Excessive Heat Warning will be in effect through 9 p.m. Take all those precautions to stay safe, including limiting outdoor time, staying well hydrated, and wearing lightweight, loose clothing if you have to be outside.
Our "muggy meter" has been in the miserable category all morning long and will stay that way this afternoon with dew point temperatures in the low 70s. Air temperatures are set to reach 96 degrees, which means a record will likely be broken, which currently stands at 94 degrees from 1952.
Today's heat indices will be in the triple digits from the late morning through sunset, with peak heat indices ranging from 103-108°.
It will stay warm and muggy overnight with lows in the mid to upper 70s. A weakening cold front will approach the area and could spark a few showers during the morning hours Thursday.
Clearing skies will become sunny in the afternoon, and it will still be hot with highs in the mid-90s.
This front will slip south through the state early Friday morning and will bring relief from the high humidity. The front looks to spark a round of storms, though, and some could be severe. This will move through overnight after midnight through daybreak Friday.
Temperatures will still be near 90 degrees as sun returns in the afternoon, but the muggy meter will fall into a more comfortable zone.
This leads us into a more pleasant weekend with seasonal highs in the low 80s returning Saturday and into the mid-80s for Father's Day.
Enjoy the break from the heat, as temperatures and humidity will be on the rise by the start of next week.
