INDIANAPOLIS — We'll still need the warm coats to get the week started. We'll be cooler today as central Indiana sits on the backside of the cold front that brought rain earlier this morning. Temperatures will only reach the upper 40s -- the average high is 57°. Skies stay mainly cloudy through the afternoon and evening.
Skies will clear a bit overnight, going from mostly to partly cloudy with temperatures dropping back near freezing. The cooler air continues Tuesday with highs again in the upper 40s. Clouds increase in the afternoon with a chance of a few stray showers from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Wednesday will be a slightly more mild, yet breezy day, for most of central Indiana. We'll start off with plenty of sunshine with increasing clouds in the afternoon as a cold front slides south into northern Indiana and could spark a stray rain or mixed shower. Temperatures top out in the mid-50s for central Indiana with a much cooler setup where the front sits north.
Thursday will be the pick-of-the-week with mainly dry conditions and temperatures pushing 60°.
Another heavy rain event looks possible for Friday. Despite the rain, temperatures will stay mild by warming to the 60s as we sit in the warm sector of this weather system. There is still some uncertainty of the timing and track of this storm system, but we know that the cold front associated with this system could spark stronger storms late Friday into early Saturday.
Behind the cold front Saturday morning, expect falling temperatures through the 50s and into the 40s for the rest of the day. A lingering stray shower will also be possible.
Sunday is the better day of the weekend as sunshine returns and temperatures recover into the mid-to-upper 50s.
