INDIANAPOLIS — A nice southwest wind in place across central Indiana today will bring a brief warming trend through the area. Look for highs in the mid-60s under a mostly sunny sky. A weak, dry cold front will sweep through the state during the latter part of the day, shifting our winds to the northwest, which will set the scene for much cooler air arriving.
Temperatures will fall into the mid-30s overnight with a mostly clear sky. Outlying areas are likely to see frost developing.
Highs on Monday will only be in the mid-40s under a partly cloudy sky. Gusty wind from the west — up to 30 mph at times — will make it feel even cooler.
As the winds shift back from the northwest, a few lake-enhanced mixed showers will be possible across northwestern parts of the state late Monday night through the day Tuesday.
The coldest air in this arctic blast will be overnight Monday into Tuesday, with a Freeze Watch already being issued. With temperatures forecast to drop into the upper 20s, we could see our first widespread hard freeze, which would bring an end to the growing season.
Highs on Tuesday will again be in the mid-40s.
We will see a slight upward trend Wednesday, with morning lows near freezing and highs in the upper 40s.
Temperatures will warm out of the 40s, with highs back in the mid-50s Thursday and into the 60s by Friday.
