INDIANAPOLIS — We're at the point in the summer season where the average temperatures will begin to fall off by a degree or so every few days. As of Aug. 19, the average high and low temperatures for Indianapolis are 84 and 65 degrees. We'll end up nearly 10° below that for the next several days with temperatures that you'd likely see in late September.
Changes arriving today:
- Dew points falling into the "comfortable zone" as drier air pushes in from the north
- Cloud cover erodes throughout the day
- Highs in the upper 70s
- Lows tonight in the 50s
When can we expect the coolest temperatures during this below-average stretch?
The coolest air will be when overnight lows drop into the low 50s (outlying areas into the upper 40s) Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
- Indy's forecast low Wednesday morning of 52° is the average low for Sept. 30
- That would be the coolest morning since June 11
- Highs in the mid-70s for Tuesday and Wednesday are more seasonal for Sept. 25
Extended forecast:
- Staying unseasonably "cool" through Thursday
- Pattern flips by Friday, bringing heat back into the forecast
- A few 90° days are possible through next weekend/early next week
