When was the time we had a dry spell this long? | Live Doppler 13 Weather Blog

Warm afternoons and lack of rain headline the forecast.

INDIANAPOLIS — Central Indiana remains in the grips of a stagnant weather pattern that's delivering a dose of comfortable mornings, sunny days, and unseasonably warm afternoons. We've addressed why the parched landscape, dry airmass, and clear conditions leads to big diurnal temperature swings.

Tuesday was the eighth straight day of 80°+ highs in central Indiana. We're forecasting 80° into at least next Tuesday. While we haven't broken any daily record highs during this streak, that would become the longest stretch in Indianapolis this late in the season since 1931 if that verifies. Either way, we've got plenty of unseasonably warm afternoons ahead.

Afternoon temperatures have been 10°+ above average during that time. Modeling Tuesday hints of a potential pattern change early next week. We'll see if that verifies.

The warm, sunny afternoons have taken a toll on the soils in Indiana, with much of the state not having rain in over a week. In Indianapolis, it's now 11 straight days without rainfall. That's the longest streak since 2022 and we're forecasting several more days without rain which could become the longest streak since the brutal summer of 2012.

That drought came with upper 90s and 100°+ heat. This drought has had tamer temperatures, but demands your attention nonetheless.

More counties were added to the burn ban map Tuesday and there likely will be more to come. Please avoid any burning until further notice, even if you're not technically in a banned county.

We'll remain sandwiched between a weak disturbance to our southeast and a cool front our west in the coming days. That will be sunny, warm, dry place to be into the weekend.
