INDIANAPOLIS — The first snow of the season is set to arrive overnight tonight into Thursday and will bring minor snow accumulation, including travel impacts.

- Morning rain will exit the area by the early afternoon
- Cooler yet seasonal highs in the low 50s
Cold and snow timeline starting late tonight
11 p.m.: Light snow and mixed showers will be possible.
5 a.m. - 10 a.m. Thursday:
- Snow showers becoming more widespread
- Light accumulation will be possible, creating slick spots on elevated surface, bridges, overpasses
- Temperatures drop below freezing
- Wind chills sustained at 15-20 degrees with 30-40 mph wind gusts
1 p.m. - 11 p.m. Thursday:
- A secondary wave of moisture brings a steady snow beginning after 1 p.m.
- Snow becomes heavy at times through the afternoon
- Winds gusts up to 40 mph at times, causing blow snow and low visibility
- Snowfall rates overcome a relatively warm ground
- Snowfall potential of 1-2" around the Indy metro through early Friday morning, mostly on grassy surfaces
Cooler-than-average snap ends by Sunday
A much colder pattern settles in through Saturday with highs in the 40s. With a strong northwest wind expected through Friday, lake-enhanced rain/snow showers will be possible. Temperatures will then recover to more seasonal levels with highs in the mid 50s by Sunday and to near 60 degrees through early next week.
