Elsa had a steady but slow strengthening on Tuesday with the latest observation showing Category 1 hurricane strength.
Though the center of the storm is about 100 miles south-southwest of Tampa, the eastern bands of the storm are already impacting the southern half of the peninsula, and that will continue for the next 18 hours or so.
Some additional strengthening is possible but not likely. Either way flooding rainfall, beach erosion, tornadoes, and some wind damage are likely on its path to a landfall in the Big Bend region of Florida Wednesday morning.
Hurricane and Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect for the western coast.
Elsa is expected to pick up speed during the day as it cuts through the southeastern U.S. on its way to tracking along the entire east coast.
Locally, central Indiana won't have any impacts from Elsa but scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected from daytime heating on Wednesday and Thursday.
