INDIANAPOLIS — We picked up some much-needed rain overnight given the dry pattern that will begin today. Indianapolis received 0.89" with much of the area seeing upwards of 0.75".

Skies will clear as an area of high pressure builds to our west. Look for plenty of sunshine today but slightly cooler temperatures with a northwest wind.

Highs will only reach the upper 60s for the Indy metro area and low 70s in areas south. Outdoor plans are looking good, including qualifications at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway today and a trip to Victory Field to cheer on the Indians this evening.

With the clear sky overnight, we'll see temperatures plummet back into the mid-40s. Normal lows for this time of year are in the mid-50s. Sunny skies are in the forecast again for Sunday but with warming temperatures into the upper 70s.

The dry, sunny pattern continues through mid-week with temperatures kicking off a warming trend. Highs will return to the low 80s for Monday and Tuesday and into the mid-80s on Wednesday, which will be the warmest of the week.

We're watching an area of low pressure set to track up the east coast during the latter part of the week. There are some scenarios where this system increases clouds and, if there are changes in the wind direction, central Indiana could see an impact on our temperatures. For now, it does look like temperatures will be a touch cooler for Thursday and Friday in the 70s.

We're watching the outlook for race weekend closely but for now it looks dry with slightly above average temperatures in the upper 70s or low 80s.
