INDIANAPOLIS —
Crisp Autumn Weekend Ahead
If you're a fan of more typical autumn crispness in the air then you're going to absolutely love the airmass moving in tonight fo the weekend in Indiana.
Whatever your plans are for the weekend, you'll enjoy a beautiful blue sky and seasonably crisp temperatures. Highs in the 60s Saturday are closer to normal for late-October which is the lower 60s.
We're still on target for a frosty Sunday morning as temperatures drop quickly Saturday night and bottom-out in the 30-35° early Sunday. The colder start leads to a cooler finish in the upper 50s to near 60° Sunday afternoon.
Near-Record Highs A Few Days Next Week
As a high pressure moves away from us next week, a returning south-southwesterly low develops quickly and strengthens too. That warmer flow delivers some rare late-season warmth to the Ohio Valley and Indiana. At this time, we're forecasting 79° and 81° respectively next Tuesday (10/30) and Wednesday (10/31). It's possible both days could be warmer.
Since 1817, there have only been 14 days on record in Indianapolis with a high temperature of 79°+ on/after October 30th . There have only been seven days of 80°+ this late in the season. If the forecast high next Wednesday verifies it would be Indy's latest 80°+ day this late in the season since 1950 and near daily record warm levels.
Regardless if we hit records...it's going to be anomalously warm by some 20-25° next week and quite windy too with gusts of 35+ mph from Tuesday afternoon into Halloween.
The breeze remains balmy to begin Halloween, but we'll be on radar watch with an approaching cool front bringing the possibility of increasing shower coverage during trick-or-treating. The timing and rain coverage remains uncertain and subject to change this far out, but models have trended in a damper direction for Halloween evening. Updates to come.
