INDIANAPOLIS — If you were thinking it's been a while since it's been this cold in central Indiana, you were correct.
The "high" temperatures in central Indiana in the mid-20s were the coldest here since the last day of January some 10 months ago. That's impressively chilly considering the amount of sunshine this afternoon and lack of snow pack, though we did wake to snow globe conditions earlier this morning with stinging wind chills near zero at times.
It will be another stinger of an overnight and early Wednesday morning with wind chills dropping into the 5-10°, if not colder away from Indy, for several hours. But that will be the coldest for a bit and with high temperatures recovering to the mid-40s Wednesday afternoon, it will "feel" some 40° warmer compared to the past 24 hours.
With that said, wind gusts near 30 mph at times will make for blustery conditions. But it will be a warmer wind from the southwest teaming up with the sunshine leading to the warmer days ahead.
The warmest day of the week will be Thursday but it will be even windier with gusts possibly approaching 40 mph. Sunshine gives way to increasing clouds Thursday with showers fair game by 4-5 p.m.
A greater coverage of rain arrives Thursday night into Friday with weather system arriving from the southwest. Plan on soggy conditions Friday with temperatures holding steady in the 40s.
Rain scatters out later Friday and into the weekend, but there will be occasional showers at times over the weekend.
