INDIANAPOLIS — Unseasonably cool air is arriving and sticks around through Thursday, but temperatures are looking up over the next few weeks overall.

TODAY'S HEADLINES:

- Today will be the transitional day as a cold front pushes south 

- Mainly sunny in the afternoon with more clouds along front

- Breezy with 30 mph wind gusts

- Highs in the low 70s

- Stray shower tonight, mainly northeast

Here comes the much cooler air

- Temperatures will drop into the mid 40s by tomorrow morning

- Highs only in the upper 50s

- Mainly cloudy

- A few stray showers both Monday and Tuesday — especially to areas northwest with lake-enhanced clouds and showers

What are the coolest temperatures we're expecting this week?

Tuesday and Wednesday will be the coolest afternoons this week with highs only in the mid 50s

- Temperatures drop into the "frost" zone with lows of 37 degrees or below both Wednesday and Thursday mornings

- Thursday looks to be the coldest morning with widespread frost possible and outlying locations likely to drop to the freezing mark

How long are these unseasonably cool temps expected to stick around?

As the average high drops to 65 degrees later this week, temperatures will be more seasonal starting Friday and into next weekend with highs back in the upper 60s, near 70. 

The Climate Prediction Center puts us under a 50-60% chance of above average temperatures in the 6-10 day outlook and a 50% chance of above average temperatures in the two-week outlook that runs through Oct. 26.
