WINCHESTER, Indiana — Donations are pouring into Winchester this weekend by the carful after a devastating EF3 tornado tore through the town.
Storm survivors are being met with water, food, clothes and supplies as they take shelter inside a fieldhouse near the high school.
The work to help neighbors in need started righted after the tornado moved past the town Thursday, March 14.
Amber Price is a team lead clothing coordinator working to help take donations and distribute them to everyone. She said the donations haven't stopped pouring in.
"People are just bringing and bringing and bringing," Price said.
Hundreds of Hoosiers of all ages are doing their part to help. Winchester High School senior Sarabeth Hargarten said entire homes with everything in it were lost, but the community is what matters most now.
"You can tell that there's a lot of devastation as many lost their homes completely and all of their things in it," Hargarten said. "You can also tell there's a great sense of community here as the streets were flooded with volunteers trying to help wherever they can."
Some of the volunteers in the surrounding community were actually victims of the storm, too. Price's home was hit by the tornado, and now she is staying at the high school, but she still felt compelled to help others who had it worse.
"This is what I needed to do," Price said.
Even in tragedy, Hoosiers have hope.
