INDIANAPOLIS — The Metropolitan Emergency Services Agency Division of Marion County Emergency Management is making a change to when you will hear the weather sirens.

The change is coming after a review of the first two severe weather events of 2024, and the policy of using the outdoor sirens when there is a Tornado Watch for a region and a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is also issued.

As a result of the review, the outdoor warning sirens will only be used when a Tornado Warning is issued by the National Weather Service or a public safety or trained weather spotter sees a tornado.

EMA in Marion County recommends people have a NOAA-certified weather radio and weather app with notifications turned on for it.

People can also text MESAINDY to 67283 to get weather and other warnings for Marion County.
