INDIANA, USA — The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has now confirmed four tornadoes from Sunday's storms.
Tornadoes have now been confirmed in five different counties: Daviess, Dubois, Johnson, Martin and Monroe.
The preliminary reports from the service indicate two of the tornadoes were EF2 strength, including a tornado that moved from Martin County into Dubois County that killed one person and injured another. The other EF2 tornado touched down in Johnson County, with peak wind speed estimated at 115 mph. Several homes were damaged in the northern part of the county, but no injuries have been reported.
The storms caused extensive damage to dozens of buildings in a line estimated by officials as roughly three miles long in the Center Grove area of the county.
The other two tornadoes, both EF1 in strength, were reported in Monroe County and a second tornado that started in Daviess County and moved east into Martin County. The peak estimated winds in each of those storms was 100 mph.
Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb said the Indiana Department of Homeland Security will have staff on the ground in the coming days in a statement issued Monday morning.
