Arctic blast begins | Live Doppler 13 Weather Blog

A Wind Advisory remains in effect through most of the state through noon today with 30-40 mph gusts possible.

INDIANAPOLIS — The focus of the forecast is shifting from wind and snow to the bitter cold. A Wind Advisory remains in effect through most of the state through noon today with 30-40 mph gusts possible. While winds ease a bit this afternoon, it'll still remain windy with 20-30 mph gusts.

We've seen a few lingering snow showers so far today and with mainly cloudy skies and colder air being ushered in, a light snow shower or a few flurries will be possible through the afternoon. Temperatures hold steady in the low 20s with single digit wind chills.

A weak wave will come through this evening, mainly after 5 p.m., and bring slightly more organized snowfall. Still -- this will be relatively light and not bring much more than an additional inch of accumulation.

A few flurries linger overnight as dangerously cold air settles in. A Wind Chill Advisory will go into effect this evening through 1 p.m. Sunday. Wind chill values will fall to -30 to -25 across the state.

Air temperatures on Sunday peak near 10 degrees with the "warmest" wind chill values near -10 as the winds ease a bit in the afternoon. Given lingering clouds and the cold air mass, a few flurries will be possible throughout the day.

The core of this arctic cold settles in through early next week with sub-zero morning wind chills, single digit morning air temperatures, and highs in the teens. With the exception of an occasional snow shower, we stay mainly dry. Temperatures moderate a bit by mid-week with highs in the mid 20s Wednesday.

Thursday will be the closest day we get to seeing the freezing mark with highs in the upper 20s but this is as our next storm system brings more snow chances. This cold snap continues into next weekend with temperatures likely not getting above freezing until the start of next week.
