INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis International Airport (IND) once again leads the nation among midsized airports.
It takes the top spot for the 12th year in a row as "Best Airport in North America," named by Airports Council International World (ACI).
The organization surveyed almost 600,000 travelers last year over key performance indicators, like ease of finding your way and dining, and determined Indy deserved the top spot.
“Indianapolis having the best airport in North America for this long of a run, 13 years in total, is about more than bragging rights,” said Mario Rodriguez, executive director of Indianapolis Airport Authority. “This kind of recognition of our world-class class team and their special brand of Hoosier Hospitality translates directly to attracting top sporting events and conferences to the city – repeatedly.”
The city of Indianapolis recently had over 190,000 travelers as it hosted the NBA All-Star Weekend. This trend of travelers is expected to grow throughout 2024 as the city hosts big events like Gen Con, U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Swimming, Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, the Indianapolis 500 and more.
“This recognition is again a reflection of what the Indianapolis International Airport truly is – the front door of a welcoming and vibrant city that people love to visit,” said Patrick Talty, president of Indiana Sports Corp. “Without our airport’s ability to deliver a world-class customer experience time and time again, we wouldn’t be nearly as successful in attracting the large-scale sporting events our city is known for."
The airport was also recently named a "Best Place to Work" in Indiana by the state's chamber of commerce.
