Water main break closes Meridian Street on Indy's south side

The incident was reported around 5 a.m. Wednesday in the 3200 block of South Meridian Street, just south of East Troy Avenue.

INDIANAPOLIS — Both directions of Meridian Street were closed on Indianapolis' south side Wednesday morning due to a large water main break.

The incident was reported around 5 a.m. Nov. 13 in the 3200 block of South Meridian Street, just south of East Troy Avenue.

A 13News crew at the scene found water gushing from the broken water main and Meridian Street flooded.

A Citizens Energy Group spokesperson confirmed crews were "working to close valves on either side of the break and isolate the issue."

The spokesperson said traffic control personnel were responding to the scene and traffic may be impacted in the area until the repairs are made.

"We've adapted water distribution to compensate for the break and have not received any calls about loss of water pressure," the spokesperson said in a message.

Around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Citizens Energy notified 13News the road had been reopened.
