Fatal crash on Indy's far east side closes major road

The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday near the Hancock-Marion County line.

INDIANAPOLIS — One person was killed in a crash involving two vehicles on the far east side of Indianapolis Wednesday morning.

Around 6:30 a.m. June 26, IMPD officers responded to South Carroll and Brookville roads, near the Hancock-Marion County line, on a report of a crash.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found two vehicles with one driver and no additional passengers inside of each of them. IMPD confirmed one of the driver's was pronounced dead, and the other driver involved was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

According to INDOT, all eastbound and westbound lanes of U.S. 52 were closed as IMPD's fatal crash investigation team worked on the scene. Brookville Road was closed at Kitley Road, and South Carroll Road was closed northbound from East Troy Avenue and southbound from West 300 South.

IMPD asked drivers to avoid the area for multiple hours during the investigation.

INDOT also said a traffic signal pole was struck and knocked down in the crash.

The Marion County Coroner's Office is working to determine the exact manner and cause of death. It will also identify the driver killed in the crash once family is notified.
