18-year-old motorcyclist killed in crash with 85-year-old driver in Tippecanoe County

The crash happened around 6 p.m. Friday, east of Lafayette.

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash in Tippecanoe County Friday.

Around 6 p.m. May 10, Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of the crash at County Road 800 South and County Road 200 East, just east of Lafayette.

According to the sheriff's office, an 85-year-old driving a minivan turned in front of the motorcyclist on County Road 200 East. 

Both of the vehicles caught fire after the collision, and the motorcyclist was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. The motorcyclist, 18-year-old Cole Groshon, was later pronounced dead in the hospital.

The two passengers of the minivan were also taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The intersection was closed for about two hours for the cleanup and investigation. This is an ongoing investigation.
