INDIANAPOLIS — An Indiana State Police trooper was injured Thursday morning when his car was hit from behind on Interstate 465.
Police said the crash happened shortly before 6:30 a.m. on I-465 west, near Allisonville Road, in a construction area.
According to police, Master Trooper Antwaun Johnson was stopped on the side of the road to help a driver who had a flat tire. When Johnson was in his car, another vehicle hit his car, which caused Johnson's car to hit the disabled car.
Police said Johnson's car was stopped on the right side of the highway with its emergency lights activated.
Investigators said the 21-year-old driver who hit the trooper's car does not have a valid driver's license, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
Johnson and the driver of the stopped car were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver who crashed into Johnson's car was not injured.
The left lane of I-465 west was closed for two hours during the investigation.
