Bicyclist killed in Morgan County crash

The crash happened shortly after 2:15 a.m. Friday morning at SR 39 on the SR 67 bypass in Martinsville.

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. — Authorities are investigating an early Friday morning crash in Martinsville that killed a man.

The crash happened shortly after 2:15 a.m. at State Road 39 on the State Road 67 bypass in Martinsville.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 2011 Kia Sorento, driven by Dennis Hiser, 67, of Indianapolis, was going south on SR 67 when it struck a bicycle, ridden by Jayson Hamilton, 28, of Martinsville, which was going west on SR 39.

Investigators believe the SUV had the green light at the time of the crash.

Hamilton was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hiser stayed at the scene and provided a blood sample, but impairment is not believed to be a cause in the crash.

Southbound/westbound SR 67 toward Paragon was blocked during the investigation. Traffic on SR 39 down to I-69 toward Bloomington was open while investigators worked at the scene.

All lanes returned to fully open just before 6 a.m.
