INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - A series of road and lane closures will significantly restrict interstate traffic in and around Indianapolis this weekend.
Starting Friday night at around 9 p.m., northbound lanes of Interstate 65 will close at Interstate 465 on the the northwest side of Indianapolis for paving work. The closure stretches all the way up to Interstate 865 in Boone County, and is scheduled to last until July 1.
Traffic will be using Interstate 465 to I-865 as a northbound detour.
At the same time, southbound traffic on I-465 along the I-65 project detour route will be restricted to one lane all weekend from Michigan Road down to the I-65/I-465 interchange. That paving work is supposed to start Friday night and lanes will be back open for Monday's morning rush hour.
More lane restrictions will impact I-465 on the northeast and east side of Indianapolis from Friday night until Monday morning. Two eastbound lanes will be closed started at the White River around the Binford Bend to southbound all the way down to Pendleton Pike.
Another full closure affects traffic from the Indianapolis International Airport into downtown along Interstate 70. Again, pavers will start work Friday night and close all eastbound lanes and entrances to I-70 between I-465 and South Split. This work was scheduled last weekend but postponed by rain. The detour will take through-traffic around I-465 on the south side of Indianapolis and back north on I-65 to westbound I-70 to access downtown exits. Traffic might also use U.S. 40 and 10th Street into downtown, as well.
Northbound traffic out of Johnson County will encounter lane closures on I-65 between Southport Road and I-465 on the south side of Indianapolis started Friday night.
All projects depend on weekend weather. Some rain is in the forecast that could alter the planned schedule similar to last weekend.
