I-465 southbound lanes between I-65 and I-70 reopening this weekend

Beginning Friday night through Saturday morning, crews will begin opening lanes. However, next month, INDOT says it will close the northbound lanes for repairs.

INDIANAPOLIS — A three-week project in the southbound lanes of Interstate 465 is now coming to an end.

Beginning Friday night through Saturday morning, crews will begin opening lanes.

Drivers can expect the southbound lanes to be fully reopen Saturday, June 22.

"Where you will start to see us still within this area is between 46th Street and I-70 on 465 southbound. We will still be there now and Monday morning," INDOT spokesperson Kyleigh Cramer said.

Southbound lanes between Pendleton Pike and Emerson Avenue were closed for much needed repairs, like patchwork.

INDOT says the lengthy closure was needed after years of heavy traffic on the roads.

"We also know that we're the crossroads of America, so that kind of comes with the title of this area as well," Cramer said. "We have a lot of commuters, we have a lot of goods and services shipped through here, we know that that's going to happen, and that's why we always prepare for things like this to possibly happen."

However, relief for drivers may be short-lived. In July, INDOT will close the northbound lanes of I-465 between I-65 and I-70 for repairs. That work is expected to last 21 days.
