The Level Up 31 plan would change the interchange between I-465 and US-31 on Indy's north side.

INDIANAPOLIS — INDOT wants your opinion on their Level Up 31 plan to ease traffic on one of the busiest interchanges on Interstate 465.

INDOT says about 104,000 vehicles will use the U.S. 31 to I-465 interchange on Indy's northside in 2025 each day. By 2045, they estimate it will see almost 161,000 daily vehicles.

The plan involves reworking the interchange, adding a lane to the east-and-westbound ramps from I-465 to northbound U.S. 31. The goal is to require less merging for travelers using the interchange.

The project website says:

"The traffic from I-465 to Northbound US 31 currently merges with Northbound Meridian from the right, even though most of the traffic is from 465. The project will flip that movement, and the 465 traffic will become primary, while the Northbound Meridian traffic will merge in from the right."

INDOT is holding a public meeting on the plan at the Drury Plaza Hotel on North Meridian Street on Thursday, Sept. 26. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with the presentation beginning at 6 p.m.
