INDIANAPOLIS — Major changes are arriving for travelers heading east from downtown Indianapolis.
Around 4 a.m. Friday, the new flyover bridge from southbound Interstate 65 to eastbound Interstate 70 reopened. The bridge is the largest structure in the North Split construction project, measuring more than 1,235 feet long and is more than 60 feet high at its tallest point, INDOT said.
The bridge's opening was accompanied by more good news for drivers heading out of downtown onto I-70 east. The on-ramp at Delaware and East 11th streets opened early Friday.
Once traffic from the on-ramp merges with traffic on I-65, two lanes of traffic will be carried east over the flyover bridge. Traffic from the Pine Street ramp will then merge onto I-70 at the east end of the bridge.
The North Split project is expected to be completed this fall.
