INDIANAPOLIS — One of the most traveled corridors in Indiana — Interstate 69 near 82nd Street on the north side of Indianapolis — is about to get a makeover.
The construction project will shut down access to the 82nd Street on- and off-ramps from I-69 starting at 9 p.m. Jan. 29.
Two right lanes along I-69 South at the 82nd Street ramp will be blocked for several nights following those ramp closures.
Additionally, there will be a double right lane closure along I-69 South near 82nd Street. There will also be intermittent short term closures of 82nd Street overnight to remove signage on I-69.
This is part of INDOT's Clear Path 465 project that aims to improve safety and traffic flow on both I-465 and I-69 on the northeast side of Indianapolis.
"We know that this will be a new configuration for a lot of folks, but this is also a very crucial part of Clear Path and making sure that everyone is safe," Cramer said.
Cramer encourages drivers to find the best alternative route.
"We purposely did not do a detour because there are a lot of local roads. We want to make sure that people are picking the best local road for them, but we are also trying to alleviate as much as possible where we did keep 82nd to I-69 northbound ramp open," Cramer said.
Here's some good news: Cramer said I-69 North to 82nd Street will open this summer.
