INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - INDOT has scheduled partial closures on Interstate 465 between Interstate 70 and Interstate 65 on the southwest side beginning in mid-September.

Both sides of I-465 will not be closed at the same time, but traffic in each direction will be totally closed on an alternating schedule for more than a week to allow crews to work quickly.

Reith-Riley contractors will remove and replace concrete on four bridges and approaches, including:

  • I-465 over Kentucky Ave./SR67
  • I-465 over State Ditch
  • I-465 over White River
  • I-465 over Harding St./SR37

Bridge joints will be replaced and asphalt and concrete pavement will be patched, as well.

SCHEDULED CLOSURES:

  • INDOT is anticipating closing I-465 eastbound at 9 p.m. on Friday, September 14 to reopen on or before Monday, September 24 at 5 a.m.
  • Then, I-465 westbound is expected to close at 9 p.m. on Friday, September 28 and reopen on or before Monday, October 8 at 5 a.m.

DETOURS:

I-65 and I-70 will serve as the detour route for I-465 during the closure. Traffic that would normally use I-465 to reach State Road 37/Harding Street or State Road 67/Kentucky Avenue will be directed to use I-70 to Harding Street (Exit 78). Southbound Harding Street will take motorists to S.R. 37 or S.R. 67 via Kentucky Avenue. Traffic that would normally use U.S. 31 should consider I-65 as an alternate route.

The closure speeds up the work needed and eliminates maintaining traffic through work zones during this significant project, which could take up to several months to complete with motorists driving near the road crews.

INFORMATION MEETING:

INDOT will host an information meeting on Wednesday, September 5 at UIndy's Schwitzer Center on 1400 Hanna Avenue for anyone who wants more details of the project. The meeting will take place between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.
