ISP says excessive speed was a factor in motorcycle crash that killed 23-year-old on exit ramp from I-465 to I-69

The crash happened shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday on the northeast side of Indianapolis.

INDIANAPOLIS — A 23-year-old man was killed in a crash involving a motorcycle on the northeast side of Indianapolis Saturday afternoon.

Shortly before 4 p.m. on March 23, Indiana State Police troopers responded to a crash on the exit ramp from Interstate 465 onto I-69 northbound after receiving "numerous" 911 calls about a serious crash involving a motorcycle, according to ISP.

First responders arrived at the scene and found a man lying in the right lane of the ramp. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.

The victim was identified as 23-year-old J Son Lamont Rinehart.

ISP's preliminary investigation shows that the motorcyclist, later identified as Rinehart, was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control and struck a guardrail along the side of the ramp. ISP says the impact of the crash ejected Rinehart from his motorcycle, sending him underneath a trailer being pulled by a pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene to help with the investigation, according to ISP.

The exit ramp was closed until around 7 p.m. for the investigation.

Investigators believe the primary factor in the crash was the man's excessive speed and don't believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
