Hospital construction to disrupt traffic near IU Methodist into 2022

The construction of a new hospital downtown means changes for drivers in the area.

INDIANAPOLIS — A major construction project is going to mean some changes in traffic around IU Health Methodist Hospital in the coming months.

Utility work being done for a new IU Health hospital downtown will involve lane restrictions on the westbound lanes of West 16th Street near the hospital from Aug. 25-30, then on the eastbound lanes from Aug. 30-Sept. 4. 

Portions of Missouri Street, Senate Street and West 16th Street will be closed for about four months starting Sept. 22. The intersection of Capitol Avenue and West 16th Street will be closed to north-south and east-west traffic from Dec. 22 through Jan. 25, 2022. Finally, a portion of Capitol Avenue will be closed from Dec. 22 through March 7, 2022. 

Sidewalks in the area will also be closed at times as necessitated by construction. 

A temporary access road to the emergency room at IU Health Methodist Hospital will be utilized from Sept. 22 until early March 2022.
