UNION COUNTY, Indiana — One Union County Highway Department worker was killed and another was injured after being hit by a vehicle while working on a rural county road Monday morning.
The single-vehicle crash happened around 9 a.m. on Clifton Road, west of U.S. 27.
Indiana State Police said Gina Price, 37, of Richmond, was driving a 2008 Honda east on Clifton Road when the vehicle struck Justin Moore, 42, of Brookville, and Douglas Scaggs, 62, of Liberty.
Moore was pronounced dead at the scene, and Scaggs was taken by helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio with serious injuries.
Police said Price was not injured in the crash but was taken to a hospital for a toxicology report, which is pending at this time.
Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the crash. The Union County prosecutor will then determine if criminal charges will be filed.
ISP was assisted by the Union County Sheriff’s Department, Liberty Police Department, Liberty Fire Department, Reid Health Ambulance Service, MedFlight, Reid Hospital ER and Pardo’s Wrecker.
Union County is roughly 80 miles east of downtown Indianapolis.
